Population development in the Helsinki Metropolitan area

In this study, I have examined population trends in the vicinity of the train and metro stations. The population of the station includes residents who live in a range of 500 meters from the station.

Western Metro was completed in 2017 and the Ring Rail Line 2015. We can see from the results that the population has started to grow at the most of the stations before or after the station was completed. There are few exceptions like Helsinki Airport (Fi: Lentoasema) and Keilaniemi which are in the business areas. It would need further study to find out the reason why population has not changed at stations Koivusaari and Vehkala.

You can explore results on an interactive map or using graphs found bellow.
